Improvement in the performance of the analysis of indicators and expansion of data cross-referencing allows more efficiency in hospital management.

Challenge

One of the great challenges for hospital management is to secure excellence in care, meeting international quality standards.

Solution

The Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz implemented the Business Intelligence (BI) project to improve the performance of the analyzes, making it possible to expand data cross-referencing. The project is part of the Institution’s business strategy for 2014 and involves the analysis of the profiles of patients, doctors and specialties, with information of financial nature.

The tool chosen for the elaboration of the panels was Tableau, in partnership with the company QADS, and is being used primarily on a specific database, built to facilitate the analysis, due to the decision not to connect the BI software to the existing databases. In a joint process with the BI staff, the analysis guidelines are elaborated and then, with the graphics ready, the managers make the comments to improve the work.

Results

Since the beginning of the project, the main advantage is the time saving, which is being obtained not only in the validation of the database, but also in the analyzes, in the creation of panels and in the learning curve of the users. In two months, the first deliveries of information began to be made. Another additional benefit was the reduction in the need to use IT staff to make customizations. Before starting the project, the Hospital used its health management platform for BI analysis. Now, the development of reports has been facilitated and it has also become possible to categorize the information, expanding the dimensions of the analyzes.
